If there was any question in your mind that Donald Trump should have nothing to do with governing this country, listen to his position on the proposed trade with Russia of an American gay black basketball player for a murderer.

Do I love the deal? No, who would love it except Griner’s family and friends. However, she is an American, the drugs she had were prescribed and very little, and it is clear that if Griner were not black and gay, most against the trade would not be against it.

While we are discussing “perfect schmucks": even though ”perfect” is generally an aspirational goal, Senator Hawley is opposing the admission into NATO of Sweden and Finland.

Remember the movie “Dumb and Dumber”? I think there were even sequels. The next one will be call “Dumb, Dumber, and Sinema”.

The ignorance of even the above-average citizen really came home to roost with me last night at the Marlins game. I was talking with a man who works at the stadium and asked him what he did when baseball was not in season. He told me he is a teacher at a local high school, and before that he was in the marines for 28 years and was an officer. I asked him his opinion on the Republicans holding up passage of the Veteran’s Bill. He knew absolutely nothing about it -- not a single thing. Did not know it was an issue. I am very discouraged.

Of course, the Marlins lost again. They are barely fielding a team at this point.

I missed the President’s speech, but word is he looked good and spoke well. He may seem mild-mannered, but he does exude a quiet resolve that suits my taste. Of course, he is the precise opposite of his bombastic predecessor.

In the middle of last night, Stuart Woods’ next-to-last Stone Barrington book arrived on my Kindle. I wonder if the Woods estate will find an author who will continue his writing the way Robert Parker’s estate found someone to continue books with several of his characters. Spenser is the best known, but Parker has several.

I used to read three or four books a month. Now, even with blowing up the size of the print on my Kindle, my eyes get tired much more easily, and, after a few minutes of reading I fall asleep. Last night, after returning from the game, I finally finished a novel I was reading when we returned from Italy on June 1.

Another reason I am reading less is that I am writing these posts each day. In order to do so, although it may not seem like it, the writing does not take as long as reading and fact checking before I do write. Still, errors are made, but overall, I have a very erudite group of readers who are fast in helping me get things correct.

Barbara remains beyond busy, still working around the clock trying to make the world better (which means getting out the vote). You all see how I end each post, but what I write is no platitude. The Republicans cannot be allowed to win. They will take us back 100 years trying to make this a Christian country.

As scary as you in the know may think Alito and Thomas are, Cruz, Hawley, Greene, Gaetz, etc. etc. are scarier. It seems that every Republican has lost his or her moral compass. I once learned that a compass does not work on the moon, but there is more than one kind of compass and that one is not working on Earth.

Go Ukraine and vote as if your life depended upon it.

I received my final Stone Barrington (like you, I hope not) book on my Kindle today too. I'm currently finishing the last book in a series by ML Longworth which takes place in Aix-en-Provence. Fortunately, there is a sequel on the way.

I continue to agree with your every political opinion. What a tragedy that so many Americans are totally ignorant of what's going on in our country.

I never respond to polls, and wonder how many others like me are out there.
