After I posted reasonably early on our Sunday night, we heard from our 7th grandchild. Barbara and me, and I am not sure our entire family appreciates this, partially due to our own fault, being remembered on days like Mother’s Day is a big deal to us.
My Mother was the most important person in the world to me. I loved my Father, but I was married with children before I could talk to them without crying. I did tell them regularly that I loved them and I also told my grandparents. We went to see our grandparents regularly and we called them at least once a week.

Okay Republicans it is time to grow some balls on this issue of raising the debt limit. McCarthy knows not doing so is financial suicide but he is afraid he will lose his speakership because of his promises to the lunatic fringe whose support he needed to become Speaker.
There have to be some Republicans who are not lunatics. These moderates have to now step up and pledge to McCarthy that they will vote to protect him if the lunatics try to bring him down. It is time to do what is right and stop this game of chicken.
One problem not being talked about is that Biden says “lift the debt ceiling with no strings attached and we will then have good faith discussions about the budget going forward”. Although Biden has a history of acting with integrity, and I have no doubt his word is his bond, the Republicans cannot digest this concept because “good faith negotiations” is not in their playbook.

Yesterday we spent another fascinating day in Africa in Dakar, Senegal. It is really quite a place, surprisingly cosmopolitan. Among other things we went to a fabulous fabrics store which had the largest inventory I have ever encountered.
Again, we had a great guide and a great driver. Our guide was 55 and has two wives, one 40 and one 35. He said when he gets enough money, he will get a third Wife. I do not know much about our driver because he speaks only French, but driving in this place is very hard and he not only knew every street, he pulled off some driving stunts worthy of a Hollywood movie.
I have been thinking of saving up for another long cruise. Our guide is saving up for a third wife. To tell you the truth, I didn’t intend to spend that much.
We had a great lunch and saw as much of Dakar as possible in eight hours. We were told to bargain over everything except in pharmacies and restaurants.
In some senses, all the African countries we have visited are totally different and in other senses they are the same.
