We walked out of Marlins’s Stadium at the end of the 8th inning. I would not have dreamed we had a chance to win. Neither did the vast majority of Yankee fans who left to beat the traffic certain they were winners. In a great, great comeback, the Marlins rallied against a very good Yankee bullpen, getting five runs in the 9th inning to win the game and the series. A fabulous win for the Marlins, and maybe a back breaker forthe Yankees. It was the kind of collapse that costs jobs.
Sometime in the next few days, Trump and probably others will be indicted in Georgia. I expect the Georgia case to be his Waterloo. The May be, hopefully, others, but Georgia is different for many reasons including the fact that even if Trump is elected, he cannot pardon himself in a State action.
A second major factor is that I expect RICO violations to be alleged. Rico cases require a special expertise and Trump is going to be hard pressed to put together a really competent legal defenses team to go against seasoned Georgia lawyers.
A brief diversion. A man knows he is in trouble if he moves from New York to Los Angeles and he has the same mailman. I know I am in trouble when I travelled to Georgia or a Carolina and my opponent tells me “shucks, I am just a country lawyer”.
Let me tell you folks. The lawyers in the South may not have the Ivy League pedigree wear suits that cost multiple thousands of dollars. They often drive a pickup truck and not a Mercedes or BMW, but do not ever underestimate them or you will get your ass handed to you.
Over the course of my career I have faced some really great lawyers some of whom went to schools most never heard of and practice law in a small office in a town with a population of a few thousand.
So, when this indictment in Georgia finally comes down, Donald J Trump and the lawyers stupid enough to take his abuse and sell their souls, will have all they can handle and then some.
A postscript to the above. Southern politics, not including Florida, is different. These country lawyers know the Governor, the Senators, all the Legislators and the other movers and shakers Why? Because they mingle. When there is a Bar Convention, the elected officials come and stay. They eat and drink with everyone and become just one of the gang. In Florida, if the Governor or Chief Justice come, they come to make their speech, and leave. There is no hanging out at the meeting so, know, when in South Carolina, you are against some small town litigator, that lawyers, more often than not, can pull multiple strings and the other side never feels a thing.
See you tomorrow. At least that is my plan.
